Livejournal gallery retrieval (cont.)

When LJ announced changes that would destroy Scrapbooks usefulness I started writing a script to get my data out. I got it working then thought it had had a major fail, but it turns out the fail occurred in copying the data to a laptop with the intention of working on it at winter weekend. Returning to it today (because time is running out on my paid account and I don't know what is going to happen to those images) I had a pleasant surprise.

So instead of just debugging I've spent the day so far improving the script which retries images that didn't come down the first time (sometimes LJ just seems to 404 for no particular reason) and I think I've got all I'm going to get. On my project list for next year is to bind the meta-data I've retrieved with the original images and back them all up to Smugmug (this will be a somewhat intermittent process as was getting them into LJ in the first place). There will be some blasts from the past coming up.

I can make the scripts available to anyone who has a copy of their xml file you used to be able to get from Scrapbook. They're in PHP (because that's what I know) and I run them locally using XAMPP portable.
